Google's unconditional allowance applies automatically. AWS defaults to us-east-1 with its trial off. Azure commercial S0 rate; Government Cloud and F0 excluded.

What counts as a page?

A PDF page or TIFF image page is a confirmed example of a billable page. AWS counts an image as a page. Azure also documents worksheet, slide, and Word or HTML character-based semantics.

Cohere and Mistral edge cases remain provider-defined. Check the official source for your file type. This calculator does not guess blank-page billing, failed-page billing, or minimum rounding.

How OCR API pricing works

OCR and document parsing APIs commonly publish a price per 1,000 processed pages. This calculator keeps page math proportional, so one page at a per-1,000 rate is one-thousandth of that rate. It does not round every workload up to 1,000 pages without an explicit billing rule.

Flat pricing applies one page rate to the full billable volume. Graduated pricing applies each rate only to the pages inside that tier. Crossing a boundary does not reprice earlier pages.

Allowances and region assumptions

Unconditional allowances apply automatically. Conditional promotional allowances remain off until the user confirms eligibility. Independent free SKUs, including Azure F0, are excluded from this paid Standard comparison.

Region rules are provider-specific. AWS uses its selected commercial region and defaults to us-east-1. Azure uses the admitted commercial S0 rate while current regional prices are equal; Azure Government Cloud is excluded.

Why the cheapest OCR API is not necessarily the best

The ranking means cheapest by estimated API cost only. Cohere and Mistral provide document parsing and OCR capabilities, while Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure expose different OCR products and file semantics. Accuracy, latency, formats, data residency, and workflow fit are outside this calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is OCR API cost calculated?

The calculator applies each provider's verified price per 1,000 pages to the pages inside each pricing tier. It applies unconditional allowances automatically and conditional allowances only after you confirm eligibility.

What counts as a page?

Page definitions vary by provider and file type. A PDF page or TIFF image page is commonly one page; AWS also treats an image as one page. Azure documents separate worksheet, slide, and Word or HTML character rules. Check the linked official source for the exact input you process.

Which OCR API is cheapest at my page volume?

Enter a non-zero monthly page volume. The result compares only current, verified, non-stale prices that can be calculated for the selected assumptions. A tie is shown when providers have the same estimated API cost.

How do Google and AWS allowances work?

Google's current unconditional monthly allowance is applied automatically. AWS's new-customer paid-plan trial is conditional, lasts for a limited offer period, and remains off unless you explicitly confirm eligibility.

Does OCR pricing vary by region?

AWS prices can vary by supported commercial region, so its region control is available under Advanced assumptions. The admitted Azure commercial S0 rates are currently equal, so Azure region selection is hidden. Government regions are excluded.

Why is cheapest not the same as best?

This calculator compares estimated API price only. OCR accuracy, document parsing features, supported formats, latency, data residency, and workflow requirements differ and are not ranked here.
